This Is What Range Anxiety Really Feels Like

Welcome to the room. This is where we actually talk, no algorithm, no rush. I took this old Tesla past the last supercharger before Alaska and range anxiety nearly won. So be honest with me: what is the lowest your battery, or your gas tank, has ever dropped before you found a station? And did you make it? I read every message and I reply right here. This episode reminds of having my Propane powered Ramcharger in the mid 90’s. It was another vehicle that you had to plan your route as to where you could find fuel not unlike the Natural Gas vehicles as well. You have to be methodical about this and come up with alternative ways to get fuel or power in your case into the vehicle. Especially when the necessary infrastructure is not present. It is a great idea but getting the necessary infrastructure to make it feasible in remote areas is still a challenge and never go further than half range from your last fill up so you are not left stranded in the middle of nowhere. It takes careful planning when venturing off the beaten path. Just something I learned from having an alternate fuel vehicle the infrastructure is built to accommodate petroleum based vehicles and has taken over a hundred years to build. There use to be an electric train that ran down the Eastern Coast of the United States it was bought up and torn down by the gas companies to eliminate the competition and make ice vehicles a necessity for transportation. Unfortunately all of the right of way’s for that infrastructure were sold off so that they could not put it back into service easily. Just a bit of history on what took place in the early 1900’s

My range anxiety is self-induced. It gives me a big thrill to be able to back into the supercharger with zero left on the range. I’ve successfully done that probably 10 times but twice I ran it out and need to get towed to this charger.

Gas cars get range anxiety too, especially out in the badlands and deserts of the US. You might be able to drive an EV there but I don't know if I would trust it. Glad you made it.

They just installed a charging station at the dollar general in a rural MT town , that was an agreement to allow them to build where they did . The chargers are coming more and more , just not on your time clock,

I found it odd that they started installing chargers at remote rest stops along the Alaska hiway, 2 yrs after those 2 people were murdered at a remote rest stop along the Alaska hwy

So, it's not really about range anxiety. It's that half of what little EV infrastructure exists in the rural areas doesn't even work as advertised and you have to spend ages fiddling with different apps for payment and calling support hotlines. This is the real issue, not range. And struggling with reception when the charger you're trying to use obviously has a connection. Why can't they make that connection available through a hotspot then (even if limited to their own app/website)? Or just offer credit card payments, like any regular gas station?
